What is my approach to weight loss & weight management?
There are so many approaches these days its hard to know where to turn ! Vegan, vegetarian, paleo low GL ?? what is right for you? We are all unique and individual and what works for one person may not for another. My approach is a tailored approached to suit YOU.
The first ‘Health of the Nation’ report released by the Department of Health has revealed that 6 out of 10 of us are overweight and 1 in 4 of us obese these are startling statistics! Weight gain is a huge factor contributing to many health conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
What is long term weight loss ?
• It is based on the quality and quantity of carbohydrate we use in our body and how we combine it with protein.
• Carbohydrate is the body’s fuel, it breaks down into glucose (sugar) we need it for energy on a day to day basis
• Too much carbohydrate or the wrong kind of carbohydrate means too much sugar in the blood which if not used by the body it is stored as fat and typically fat around the middle.
• Managing blood sugar means managing appetite, sugar cravings and ultimately managing your weight and a healthy lifestyle.
• Blood sugar highs puts you at risk of diabetes and heart disease while blood sugar lows effects mood and concentration and makes you crave sugar.
I like to focus on when you eat as well as what you eat, how your digestion is and what stresses are there in your life currently. Do you skip breakfast ? Do you have long gaps between your meals? How is your sleep ? These are all stressors on the body that will cause weight gain.
We need less carbs and more protein and I feel this approach works for a lot of people. It is so easy to take in too many carbohydrates which can easily be stored as fat.Contact me today and see what approach is right for you!
What a recent weight loss client had to say:
‘I decided to make an appointment with Cathriona based on what I had seen on facebook and heard about.
I was feeling very unwell for a number of months, suffering with weight gain, sickly feeling all the time, bloating, headaches, constant stuffy nose, could not get a good night’s sleep, aches and pains in my legs every night. I began to think I was going mad. I booked in for a food intolerance test and weight loss plan.
I met with Cathriona discussed my current eating habits, lifestyle etc. She took a blood sample for testing, we chatted about some changes to make while the sample went off to be tested. She advised me on some supplements in the interim to go ahead with. A week later I got my results and sure enough all the foods that I was eating every day was to blame. Cathriona advised to cut them out completely and the foods with a lesser reaction to reduce down to 2 / 3 times per week.
Cathriona went through the new plan with me, we had a discussion on foods, menu, she took my measurements, weight, told me to follow up with her on my eating plan after a few days to make sure I was on track. Within 2 weeks the results were amazing, every one noticed how bright and clear my skin was looking, I had loads more energy and generally happier in myself.
The constant blocked nose has gone, bloating has gone and I am sleeping a lot better.
After 4 weeks I returned for a repeat visit I had reduced my waist size by 4/5 inches and the same in pounds on the scale. I feel so much better I am now in my 2nd month and the inches continue to go and the weight is going down.
I cannot stress the importance of having the food intolerance test done, it was had completely changed my life. My husband is also following the plan he too has lost weight and really feels the benefit of it. I will continue to meet with Cathriona over the coming months as I feel it can only improve all the time. I am so glad I took the time to call and make the appointment with her.’ Joanne, Portlaoise
